Olympic snippets #1

I couldn’t watch all of the opening ceremony yesterday afternoon but I came home in time to see the different nations enter the stadium. Good to see the Germans weren’t dressed the worst for once.
Right now I just finished watching the first swimming heats. This Water Cube is one very, very nice venue I must say. Michael Phelps’ debut was impressive as expected but I still doubt that he’ll be able to break Mark Spitz’s record, the relay medals might become a problem, well, we’ll see. Our women’s 4×100m freestyle relay did surprisingly well and qualified for the final.
In other news: the soccer girls won 1:0 against Nigeria so chances are good that they’ll enter the quater finals, the handball women won against Brasil, Fabian Hambüchen qualified for the horizontal bar and floor  final and the gymnastic team reached the team final. Not too shabby!
