Guess the Lyrics Meme

Stolen from liljan98:

Put your music library on shuffle. Post the first lines of the first 25 songs that come up. The game: Guess which songs the first lines are from. Google = cheating.

01. When the rain set in we had nowhere left to go so we just stayed in bed while the thunder rolled

02. All in all we made pact, gonna do this to the end what always was and always will be right

03. Today I saw my father standing in the graveyard looking very somber looking for his mom

04. Fight hard on a night like this look for a star and wish you could get out of it

05. Stay until the morning and maybe you’ll forget try hard to remember how we were when we first met

06. Did I really need her, was it just a sweet dream that lingers in the morning like a melody

07. Wo ein raues Wort dich trägt, weil dich hier kein Schaum erschlägt

08. Gone away and hide your eyes stay for me with no disguise

09. Well I heard there was a secret chord that David played and it pleased the Lord

10. Anywhere you go, anyone you meet, remember that your eyes can be your enemies

11. Find me here, speak to me, I want to feel you, I need to hear you

12. We were standing in an empty room, the moonlight was falling, you were holding my hand when the car
pulled up for you

13. There’s something in the air tonight
but nothing on earth could make me stop this fight

14. People smile and tell me I’m the lucky one, and we’ve just begun

15. As the music at the banquet, as the wine before the meal, as the firelight in the night

16. Check your pulse it’s proof that you’re not listening to the call your life’s been issuing you

17. Sunday morning, my Rebecca sleeping in with me again there’s a kid outside the church kicking a can

18. Too alarming now to talk about, take your pictures down and shake it out, truth or consequence, say it aloud

19. Here you are now fresh from your war back from the edge of time

20. Well I don’t have as many friends because I’m not as pretty as I was I’ve kicked myself at times because I’ve lied

21. Oh my love help me open my heart again, tear it open let the rain fall in

22. You’ll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley

23. I don’t know what I’ve done or if I like what I’ve begun but something told me to run

24. Lay me down on shores of the whitest sand soft like that woman with the fight of a thousand men

Smashing

This morning around ten o’clock I heard a deafening bang. Thought something happened again at the nearby construction side where a new huge shopping mall is built at the moment so I didn’t pay too much attention to it. Only when I received a text message from liljan98 who wanted to check if I’m ok did it register with me that this bang was something slightly different than normal construction noisiness ;-). The incident occured on the lot of the former Henrichshütte which at best times was a place of employment for over 10.000 people and therefore one of the main targets in WWII with 151 bomb hits. So I guess they were lucky to find only one today ;-).

Also kurz mal bei denen angebimmelt. ;-)

Olympic snippets #2

So the 2008 Olympic Games just drew to a close with another huge propaganda battle and spectacular pictures. I especially liked the well-drilled kids who wouldn’t stop waving and the soldiers in disguise who accompanied the flag-bearers. Lovely!
On a more positive note, doing the medal ceremony for the marathon runners within the closing ceremony surrounded by  thousands of fellow athletes from more than 150 nations was again an excellent idea (I think we have seen that before) and a great sight. The preview for 2012 appears to be very promising as well (David Beckham excluded of course). Looking forward to London!

P.S.: Gruß an Béla Réthy vom ZDF, der Jackie Chan für einen Volunteer hält. Großes Kino! *g*

Olympic snippets #1

I couldn’t watch all of the opening ceremony yesterday afternoon but I came home in time to see the different nations enter the stadium. Good to see the Germans weren’t dressed the worst for once.
Right now I just finished watching the first swimming heats. This Water Cube is one very, very nice venue I must say. Michael Phelps’ debut was impressive as expected but I still doubt that he’ll be able to break Mark Spitz’s record, the relay medals might become a problem, well, we’ll see. Our women’s 4x100m freestyle relay did surprisingly well and qualified for the final.
In other news: the soccer girls won 1:0 against Nigeria so chances are good that they’ll enter the quater finals, the handball women won against Brasil, Fabian Hambüchen qualified for the horizontal bar and floor  final and the gymnastic team reached the team final. Not too shabby!

I’m outta here!

This blog is closed for the next seven days. I’m going to be out of town heading north. Not to the coast this time unfortunately, maybe in September. See you next weekend. Cheers!

Rip-off

These gas prices are insane!!!! 1,59 € per liter (which is about $ 9.54 per gallon)!!! HELLO, I don’t want to buy the whole oil field! Although I only have a small car with a low gasoline consumption I will only use it if absolutely necessary, no more useless trips, period!!!

Mission: Kura

Yesterday I helped a friend of mine assemble her son’s new bed which answers to the name of Kura and hails from Sweden. Everything went quite well except for one missing slat from the bed base(which was later found hiding in the car) and some minor and major language problems. My friend originally is from Spain but lives here for about ten years now so she’s quite fluent in German. Her mother on the other hand who is visiting at the moment only speaks Spanish, no German, no English, just Spanish. Unfortunately I only speak a little Italian but no Spanish except for maybe three to five words. Well, as you can imagine, that was a lot fun :-)). Especially with the German/Spanish versions of words like Allen key or keyseat. Luckily we all have two healthy hands so we used them to communicate. ;-) Oh, and I also have to mention the Spanish specialties that were provided, yummy big time!!!

Spoilt for choice

I’m at work right now looking for a rental moving truck for my friend and colleague. She’s in the middle of a pretty ugly divorce and doesn’t have a lot of time on her hands with all that paperwork and a little boy to take care of. Man, I didn’t know there were so many makes and models to choose from let alone the different weight specifications. Phew!

Hirnlos

Easter impressions

I’m back from my 5-day-Easter-trip and boy, was it snowy. That didn’t keep us from hiking at least 10 miles per day though which got pretty exhausting sometimes especially in the deep snow areas. The rest of the time we spend skiing and sledding, ok, just sledding in my case, my invalid knee doesn’t like skiing unfortunately but it was a lot of fun anyway. Haven’t seen that much snow in at least 15 years. On our way back it got a little too much though, we were surprised by a massive snow storm so that we had to pull over on the Autobahn and wait till it was over, quite dangerous, but we made it home safely.

Leicht verrutschte Hauptstadt

Nee, is’ klar!! *headdesk*

Smart move

This is the forecast for the next days here in my region: mixture of rain and snow, low 33F, chance of precip 70%.

Mmmmhhh, I removed my snow tires the day before yesterday. Well done!!! *patting myself on the shoulder*
